These are the 5 most in-demand cloud computing jobs in 2022

According to experts and recent statistics, the future looks cloudy. And no, we’re not talking about the weather forecast, we’re talking about the exciting and emerging cloud computing sector.

In the last decade, cloud computing has grown exponentially. It has become such a huge part of our lives that it’s almost become unnoticeable. But, if you’ve used Google Drive, shared photos with friends or even watched a movie on Netflix this week — then you’ve been making the most of this technology.

In fact, cloud computing really came into its own over the last two years during the Covid-19 pandemic. Think about it: video conferencing services such as Zoom and Skype saw a huge spike in numbers, and the need to digitally file and share folders amongst office workers was a necessity. Plus, automated software became crucial.

Unlike sectors such as hospitality, the cloud computing industry continued to grow in 2020 and onwards. But it’s not stopping there.

Recently, Grand View Research published a study of emerging trends in the cloud computing space. By 2030, the report predicts that the sector will make an annual revenue of $1.6 trillion. Interestingly, more than half of the market will consist of banking, financial services and insurance, IT and telecom services, and retail and consumer goods.

If you already have IT experience and an interest in this field, there has never been a better time to consider a job move. You might just future-proof your career.

We’ve done the hard work for you and lined up the top five jobs in cloud computing — now all you need to do is spruce up your CV.

Virtualisation Engineer

Average salary: €47,194

Virtualisation engineer sounds like a pretty snappy job title. The reality is that it’s a super important role. Virtualisation engineers are IT professionals who serve as cloud computing advisors to organizations. As a result, they must stay up-to-date with all the latest industry developments. With the rise of digital platforms, virtualisation will continue to grow.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage the application, architecture, and deployment of cloud solutions
  • Manage client-server virtualisation
  • Review the cloud computing strategy of their organisation.

Cloud Data Engineer

Average salary: €73,823

In a nutshell, a cloud data engineer is responsible for building and supporting data infrastructure that helps large companies make decisions. They also look for trends in data sets and create algorithms to help the enterprise use the raw data.

Key responsibilities:

  • Designing and deploying new applications directly in the cloud
  • Moving related data to the cloud
  • Creating and documenting tests to meet requirements.

Cloud Engineer

Average salary: €74,508

Unlike cloud data engineers, cloud engineers focus more on non-data related topics such as administration, application development, scaling and potentially logging tasks in the cloud. A cloud engineer’s role can look fairly different depending on the company they work for and their tasks will often overlap with other professions.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assembling the cloud infrastructure
  • Creating the functions, applications, or databases that run on the cloud
  • Ensuring a secure cloud environment, and ensuring appropriate availability of services.

Cloud Security Analyst

Average salary: €60,355

This role is very similar to that of a cybersecurity analyst. However, cloud security analysts are responsible for identifying dangerous threats and vulnerabilities in cloud-native environments. They will work closely with the wider product team to keep security up-to-date and effective.

Key responsibilities:

  • Use security risks to create product security rules and controls
  • Research emerging cloud threats and proactively protect against them
  • If a breach does occur, a cloud security analyst will be on the front line dealing with the problem.

Cloud Automation Engineer

Average salary: €52,900

Everything in our world is becoming increasingly automated, from our coffee machines to proofreading. Even buying groceries or visiting a doctor has changed. As a result of this shift, we need cloud automation engineers to build and maintain this technology as it moves to the cloud.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead application release management
  • Provide documentation to assist projects as they move to the cloud
  • Work closely with third parties to resolve issues
